UK Plant Manager

 

Objective:

 

With significant autonomy, the Plant Manager will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, leading and managing diverse Production, Maintenance, Quality and Logistics teams.

 

Plant operations make use of a full suite of technology solutions to manage production, maintenance and logistics to provide an efficient paper free environment.

 

The Plant Manager reports directly to the COO on the Group Board.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Overall responsibility for all Operational Plant Processes including the management of manufacturing and storage sites, daily manufacturing operations, logistics, equipment maintenance and production of the Company’s products to the quality standards set out in the Company’s policies, processes and procedures, on time and within budget
  • Deliver safe, high quality and efficient manufacturing processes, to effectively meet the demands of all customers.
  • Ensure Company operations are undertaken safely in accordance with legal and Company’s EH&S policies, processes and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment and handling of COSSH
  • Ensure that every link in the manufacturing chain is defined, planned with Safe Systems of Work and Standard Operating Procedures, and measured in line with industry best practice.
  • Be responsible for production planning and ensuring that systems, processes, and people are able to deliver production plans that are sequenced, support material and work content flow and achieve the required output in an efficient manner.
  • Be responsible for the Quality function within the plant. Ensure accurate reporting and data analysis drive root cause problem solving and interventions that result in ‘right first time’ improvements.
  • Deliver high quality products, achieving best in class on time and in full metrics, using detailed logistical planning to ensure optimised production.
  • Continuously improve all manufacturing processes using continuous improvement and lean methodology, cascading the skills and the expectation to deliver to all key stakeholders within the manufacturing leadership team.
  • Manage and drive improvement in the performance of the manufacturing leadership team. Identify when performance does not meet expectation, respond promptly and appropriately to rectify the issue.
  • Design and implement KPIs that accurately reflect performance. Ensure the KPIs are highly accurate and reflective of the manufacturing process being measured. Use root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and lean methodology to always target improvements and achieve excellence. Escalate and address business risks without delay or hesitation.
  • Ensure that capital equipment, machinery and tooling are used and maintained in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner for the benefit of the business. Minimise downtime through total preventative maintenance regimes and ensure that all capital assets are maximised in terms of efficiency and output.
  • Oversee plant’s IT systems for tracking and task management
  • Manage on-call schedule and participate as the on-call manager, as required
  • Liaison with Plant Manager in North America to share best practice

 

Human Resources:

 

  • Training & Development of production, quality, maintenance, and logistics staff
  • Recruitment and appraisal of all plant staff
  • Management of staff in accordance with Company HR Policies process and procedures
  • Communication with Board HR lead director and Company HR platform and advisors

 

Physical Demands:

 

  • Lifting from 2-15 kg, unassisted
  • Access and mobility in tight spaces
  • Working at Heights – over 4 meters, periodically
  • Required to wear PPE

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Experience managing a manufacturing and operations team ideally within a plastics manufacturing organisation
  • Excellent leadership qualities and experience
  • IOSH/NEBOSH qualified preferable
  • Lean manufacturing / continuous improvement experience desirable
  • A proven track record of improving a manufacturing site in the form of world class processes and driving continuous improvement
  • A real drive and determination to meet objectives
  • A keen eye for detail and making sure the quality of the products produced are of a best standard
  • Take ownership of the role with clear communication to key stakeholders and directors in the organisation
