Role overview

 

To provide effective supervision and leadership, and manage the day to day operations of the allocated machining cell(s).

 

General duties & responsibilities

To lead, motivate and develop the team to achieve business goals, ensuring all work standards are met, aligned with company policies & procedures.

To effectively communicate and implement company policies, procedures and practices.

To drive the SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People) culture in operations.

To implement and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

To lead daily SQCDP Cell Meetings.

To proactively manage absence and performance management issues, including disciplinary procedures.

To ensure full compliance to all business standards (H&S, Quality and site performance).

To ensure incidents/accidents are captured, reported and contained with corrective actions.

To support the Operations Manager in delivering business objectives.

To provide guidance and feedback to team members, clearly setting expectations.

To identify poor performance and manage through performance improvement plans.

To ensure that the team’s training and development needs are identified and met.

To promptly contain faults and put corrective actions in place.

To understand and drive OEE across the site.

Ensure constructive handover and capture of all issues is completed.

To practice and maintain 5S standards.

To carry out any other duties not listed above as may be reasonably expected.

To ensure that you work in a safe manner and complies with Health, Safety & Environmental Policies.

 

Person specification; Knowledge, experience & skills

 

Have previous management/supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

Understand 3 & 5 Axis CNC machines and their capabilities.

Understanding of OEE.

Experience of working in a subcontract manufacturing environment is desirable.

Experience of manufacturing components for various industries is desirable (aerospace, oil and gas, nuclear, defence).

Have experience and understanding of Continuous Improvement tools.

Qualifications

 

Apprenticeship certificate in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.

HNC or NVQ level 4 in engineering is essential.

A line management qualification ie ILM Level 3 is desirable.

IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications would be advantageous.
