Job Objectives:

To oversee the commissioning aspects of the project to ensure the effective delivery of all company products from the stage of pre-contract award, commissioning plan development through to factory acceptance and site installation & test. Undertake hands-on commissioning activities as well as producing relevant reports and documentation.

Commissioning engineers that will be engaged in the testing of bespoke equipment to make sure they function correctly and produce the expected results. In doing so they will bring the product or system to a point at which it can be used most effectively.

Commissioning engineers therefore need to possess a thorough understanding of the construction and product use, as well as customer expectations. They will be embedded into a Project team and will work closely with the construction department from concept stage to sea trials.

Job Specific Duties including but not limited to:

To work with the project team at all levels to ensure the manufactured, assembled and commissioned equipment is delivered on schedule.

Developing, maintaining and implementation of project specific commissioning plan and schedule (all phases and disciplines), liaising with key personnel to ensure a successful product delivery.

Provide support to bids by producing commissioning plans with resource requirements cost and scheduling information for Commissioning work scope.

Identification/co-ordination of project commissioning requirements including facility, equipment and resource requirements to deliver the projects safely, to schedule, required quality, specification and to budget.

Provide day to day guidance and instruction for the commissioning team and line management of lead Commissioning engineers.

Through own appraisal objectives, develop departmental and team goals, objectives and KPIs within own area, ensuring consistency of these objectives with team’s personal objectives as part of business appraisal process.

Ensure construction function supports engineering teams during design phase to ensure that Commissioning requirements are considered and included in the design phase as far as possible.

Develop mechanical construction procedures for all aspects of the Commissioning phases (construction / assembly/ factory acceptance test).

To identify the requirement, ensure the development and completion of the required documentation for the assembly, commissioning and installation phases of the project.

To work with and provide guidance to the site construction supervisors, technicians and engineers for the project Commissioning phases.

To assist the project team (including engineering, assembly and commissioning teams) with resolution of technical issues that may arise during the construction phases of the project.

To monitor and record customer feedback on equipment performance, reliability and company services and use this information to improve future company performance.

Develop strong collaborative working relationships within Commissioning function to support efficient project delivery.

Positively promote HSE considerations, ensuring workers follow all HSE requirements and participate in identifying and raising HSE concerns by use of systems such as SHARP cards, Near Miss Reports, etc.

Ensure Commissioning representation attendance at daily operational management team meetings (SIMOPS) leading and attending as required.

Site and contractor supervision – may be required at times (to cover busy periods and absence) to be a point of contact as the company representative when overtime/sub-contractors are working. This will include site opening and closing as required to meet the needs of the business.

Required to travel and work nationally and internationally as required to meet the needs of the business, including offshore works.

Any other duties as directed by line management or SMT member.

Qualifications

  • A degree or HND/C in engineering and/or excellent progressive career experience in engineering installation work (ideally gained in the oil/gas/energy sectors).

Experience (Essential)

  • Extensive engineering experience gained in a heavy engineering environment
  • Extensive commissioning experience
  • Experience of planning and installation of complex systems to schedule
  • Leading a team to successfully complete installation work
  • Planning of resource, creating budgets and constructing schedules for assembly work

Aptitude

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, as required by the role
  • A flexible approach in order to work shifts required to meet project deadlines
