Role Overview
- To work with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead sustainable growth including the implementation of medium and long-term strategies, developing the processes to allow entry into new markets and delivering the objectives and business performance management, with an appreciation of risk, aspects and impacts.
- Lead operations to ensure the efficient utilisation of all operational resources, machine shop, assembly and implement effective execution of production planning, manufacturing processes and controls.
- Implementation of best practice techniques and continuous improvement activities.
- Create a disciplined process driven culture, removing variation in all areas.
- Lead and promote a health, safety and environmentally conscious culture within the company.
- Effective control and development of the supply chain function, to minimise stock and ensure a robust procurement process, maximising commercial opportunity.

General Duties & Responsibilities
Management Responsibilities
- Drive, co-ordinate and the execution of the team to be fully engaged in the business direction, focusing on the HSE, production, supply chain, strategies and objectives.
- Actively participate in board, senior management and management team meetings.
- Lead a robust and compliant, Health, Safety and Environmental system.
- Develop a lean, process driven, Six Sigma best practice culture within the company to improve people, product, quality and performance whilst reducing cost.
- Support the CEO in promoting good employee relations, employee engagement and ensuring growth and quality of people by way of talent, process controls and succession planning;
Line Management Responsibilities
- Lead and direct your teams ensuring clear strategy is developed, objectives agreed and targets achieved.
- Use PMD process and skills matrices to identify and develop training programmes for the personnel in your areas of responsibility
- Continually review and develop the competency and flexibility of your teams to ensure that there is the right level of skills to achieve the strategic and tactical requirements as defined in the plan.
HSE
- In conjunction with the HSE manager develop internal HSE policy and strategy in line with the overall business strategy.
- Ensure the business remains compliant on all aspects of HSE including supporting audits and ensuring HSE inductions are carried out for all new employees.
- Ensure the creation and distribution of HSE documentation and associated records and oversee the compilation of statistical HSE data.
- Lead monthly / quarterly on site / offsite HSE meetings.
- Support the investigation of incidents, accidents, complaints and cases of ill health
Operations / Production
- In conjunction with the production and supply chain management, ensure effective planning and utilisation of resources to achieve monthly production targets; reviewing targets, and prioritising orders with due regard to company commitments and client satisfaction.
- Execution of the plan to meet business needs, inline with Quality, Cost and Delivery.
- Lead the shop floor operations team to ensure effective utilisation of resources, tooling, plant and equipment across all operational areas and activities.
- Driving OEE improvement activities and initiatives.
- Investigate, recommend and implement new or improved production planning methods, processes and systems to increase manufacturing efficiency, improve reporting and reduce costs.
- Oversee onsite site and facility maintenance activity, ensuring machine maintenance schedules are adhered to and that it remains within budget and schedule.
- Lead and support continuous improvement through project based work utilising Six Sigma, Kaizen and lean principles, ensuring the growth of an improvement culture, towards becoming a world class manufacturing business.
- In conjunction with the quality manager ensure the QMS is continually reviewed and developed to ensure compliance and efficient.
- Support the development of suitable inspection plans and processes to improve levels of quality.
- Implementation of best practice techniques to allow repeatable and capable processes.
- Work in conjunction with the senior management team to assist in developing and implementing operational processes and procedures throughout.
- Achieve company goals and targets, and working as part of the senior management team to attend and participate in operations, management and production meetings.
- Work within and strive to reduce budgeted expenses allocated to areas directly under your control.
Supply Chain / Sales Order processing
- In conjunction with the supply chain manager ensure processes and targets are being monitored and achieved.
- Develop a robust and qualified supplier network to support the requirements of the business.
- Drive the integration and utilisation regarding capacity, quality and delivery.
- Minimise stock holding based upon the agreed strategy relevant to lead times and risk management.
- Drive the continuous cost out behaviour with a targeted approach for make or buy, adoption of alternative processes and material options, or improved manufacturing techniques.
- Improve the internal customer service communication, tracking and expediting processes.
General

Person Specification
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Strategic planning; with the ability to assist the senior management team in managing the workloads as per customer requirements and deadlines.
- Ability to communicate with and maintain good relationships with the company’s customers.
- Ability to communicate clearly and constructively.
- Experience at senior management level including production, planning, supply chain and HSE
- Sound management abilities with at least four years’ experience of managing at a senior level.
- Proven leadership qualities and change management abilities with the capacity to support the company to achieve its main objectives.
- Significant experience and understanding of the manufacturing industry and a machine shop / assembly environment.
- Experience of people management, including attendance and absence management, performance management, carrying out investigation / disciplinary processes and recruitment in relation with the HR team.
- A track record of delivering an improvement culture such as Lean Six Sigma
- Experience of manufacturing within various industries.
- High level of computer literacy.

Qualifications
- A relevant degree qualification in a relevant discipline – i.e. management or engineering.
- A relevant HNC or NVQ level 4 in an engineering discipline.
- Apprenticeship certificate in a relevant discipline – I.e. engineering.
- A relevant line management qualification – i.e. ILM Level 3.
- A relevant HSE qualification – i.e NEBOSH
- A relevant Lean Six Sigma / Kaizen qualification.
