An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Project Engineer to support our project and engineering staff with development, specification, delivery and closure of a range of engineering, facilities and business systems solutions aimed at resolution of issues, asset maintenance, continuous improvement and long-term strategic investments.

 

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The key responsibilities and duties will include project engineering and management from idea initiation to closure, following a gated process on a wide range of projects, including but not limited to:

  • Defining project objectives and documenting user needs.
  • Search for and develop solutions to meet user needs, working with relevant specialists and suppliers.
  • Produce specifications and work with others to develop pre-construction information, contract documents and support the procurement process.
  • Develop scope, programme, and budget.
  • Identify and secure the necessary resources, internal and outsourced.
  • Develop project execution plans including risk assessment and management plans.
  • Lead integrated project teams including scoping project roles and responsibilities, working with external specialists and managing meetings.
  • Manage projects on a day-to-day basis, tracking progress to achieve accepted programme, budget and quality objectives.
  • Manage 3rd party contracts and related issues.
  • Manage change and take any necessary corrective action to deal with project issues.
  • Ensure records are maintained and prepare regular progress reports.
  • Provide expert technical support in own engineering discipline.
  • Assist with development of project procedures, specifications, templates and tools.
  • Assist with development of business management systems and related projects.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Formal project management qualification would be an advantage.

 

Skills

  • Project management skills gained from engineering and multi-disciplinary project work.
  • Contract preparation and contractor management.
  • Project controls including planning, cost, quality and documentation.
  • An ability to manage teams, excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Competent computer user with relevant software package experience.
  • Flexible approach to work and be prepared to respond to changing needs.

 

Knowledge

  • Good general understanding of relevant construction related laws and regulations including health and safety, CDM and principles of the building regulations.
  • Understanding of thermal power generation and associated engineering disciplines.
  • Project management.
  • Engineering and construction related conditions of contract.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years previous experience of engineering and projects preferably gained within a power station, engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Previous power station experience would be an advantage.
